On December, 2013 the 9th, elected representatives and technicians from Val d'Ille visited two units manufacturing wood chips and pellets.

The Joint Community of Chateaugiron has built a wood chips hub to collect, dry and deliver wood chips of their territory. They invested 550 000€ and look forward to use it for 3 different activities :

  • to collect, dry and deliver wood chips to local boilers. The hub capacity is 500 tons of chips and several local association manage the activity. The wood comes from the hedges of the territory, farmers are involved in the associations. Today the hub delivers 10% of wood supply for the community aquatic center.
  • to chop green waste from joint community and householdsand use the chips for mulching
  • to create a waste sorting and recovery center

Coopedom is an agricultural cooperative specialised in forage dehydration. Since 2007 they are involved in an energy and greenhouse gases emissions reduction plan. They have achieved 60% reduction of GHG thanks to wilting (the incoming forage is dryer and requires 20% to 30% less energy to dehydrate) and biomass (one coal furnace has been replaced by a biomass furnace fed with 4000 tons of wood chips, 4000 tons of miscanthus and 2000 tons of sawdust).

As an additional activity in winter they produce 3000 tons NF premium wood pellets which are sold to households.
