Signature of Covenant of mayors in Slovenia
A the beginning of the project 100% RES Communities we initially meant that we have two pilot areas for which two SEAPs will be developed. First was area of the Mirna Valley, rounded geographical area consisting of three municipalities: Šentrupert, Mokronog-Trebelno and Mirna. The second area that has been defined at the beginning of the project, was Heart of Slovenia, which connects 10 municipalities around the geometric center of Slovenia.
Municipality Šentrupert in the Mirna Valley joined the project REMIDA (MED program) in 2013, under which they prepared SEAP for their municipality. At the meeting of the Municipal Council in September 2014 the municipality decided to join the Covenant of Mayors and adopted their SEAP. Nevertheless, until today they have not officially fulfill their application to become part of Convenant of Mayors. Other municipalities in the Mirna Valley were later due to lack of interest excluded from the further activities of the project.
The area of Heart of Slovenia is a community of 10 municipalities in the sub regional development partnership, which is connected with the purpose of faster development. Municipalities in the partnership are quite different. Within the project 100% RES communities, we decided to make SEAPs for the geographically similar area, that is for three municipalities: Dol pri Ljubljani, Litija and Šmartno pri Litiji. The last two municipalities were previously part of a joint, single municipality. In September 2014 all three municipalities joined the project and committed to join the Covenant of Mayors. In January 2015 the Municipality of Dol pri Ljubljani decided to withdraw from the project due to changes in local authorities. Thus, the SEAPs are prepared for municipality of Litija and Šmartno pri Litiji. The Municipalities are to be officially joined to the Covenant of Mayors in April or May. At the technical workshop on 27th of March 2015 the mayor of the Municipality of Šmartno pri Litiji promised that the Municipality will adopt the decision of joining Covenant of Mayors at the meeting of the Municipal Council in April and SEAP on meeting in May 2015.
